We're all painfully aware of the typical survival horror experience by now, right? We play as a mysterious man or woman with a troubled past that they begin to uncover in greater detail as they explore the haunted town/house/village/asylum. I'm not knocking it - it works.
Even so, it's always nice to see a developer come along every now and again who dares to challenge that formula. Are you sick of playing as a man with a troubled past? Good news: this new survival horror game lets you play as a cat with a troubled past.
Created by a tiny two-person indie team called From Scratch Studios, Etched Memories puts you in the tiny little beans of a cat called Biscuit as he desperately searches for his mum and sorts through hazy old memories. What is this cat running from? If Biscuit is anything like my cat, probably the steamy poop he dropped in the bath.
"Waking up in the midst of a stormy night, a grey feline named Biscuit finds his mom nowhere in sight," reads the game's Steam page. "Feel what it is like to be Biscuit as he searches for his mom through the memories he has clung onto."

The fact that From Scratch describes this game as a first-person and third-person indie horror cat simulation game is enough for me, but the playable demo does look ace. Just be aware that the studio currently sees this demo more as a proof of concept, and they acknowledge there's still plenty of work to be done before Biscuit's adventure can truly begin.
"In the full version of the game, there will be special locations and Easter eggs throughout the map that can be discovered from hiking around," the description confirms. "However, please note that this demo will not have these features and the forest will not be as populated."
Given where the game is at in development, you won't be surprised to learn that Etched Memories doesn't have a release date yet. Hopefully this demo can really get the ball rolling for From Scratch though, because I'm dying to see if Biscuit can find his mum and get out alive. All cats deserve the very best life has to offer, dammit.
