Days Gone 2 is, unfortunately, dead and buried for the moment. Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Sony chose to reject SIE Bend Studio's pitch for the open-world zombie sequel back in 2019. Bend is currently working on a new IP, but the fans of the first game are still devastated to have learned they won't be getting a sequel.

The sorry fate of Days Gone 2 was first unveiled via a Bloomberg report that dug into Sony's current approach to releasing AAA games. In short, it seems Sony wants to prioritise blockbuster titles that it's confident in. To that end Naughty Dog is currently working on a remake of The Last Of Us and yet another Uncharted sequel. Given the fairly modest critical response to Days Gone, Sony chose not to proceed with a sequel.

This, of course, confused and upset fans who adored the game. Social media was soon overrun with cries to revive Days Gone 2, and a petition was soon started. That petition has now picked up an incredible amount of steam. At the time of writing, it has amassed over 60,000 signatures and its near its goal of 75,000.

To be clear, nothing is going to happen when the petition hits 75,000, but the hope is Sony will take notice that so many people are so passionate about the world and potential of Days Gone.

"There's millions of people who want Sony PlayStation to approve Days Gone 2," writes petition creator Kanhai Raval. "And I want all the fans to sign this petition. They can't just pull the plug on such a amazing game that ended with a cliff hanger."

While all of this has been going on, Days Gone director John Garvin had some choice words to share with those of us who waited until the zombie game had come down in price a little to purchase and play.

"I do have an opinion on something that your audience may find of interest, and it might p*ss some of them off," Garvin explained on a recent podcast hosted by God Of War creator David Jaffe. "If you love a game, buy it at f*cking full price. I can't tell you how many times I've seen gamers say 'yeah, I got that on sale, I got it through PS Plus, whatever'."

Garvin is no longer with Bend, so if Days Gone 2 ever does get made, he probably won't be involved.
