Girlfriend Pranked Gamer Into Thinking He'd Gotten A PlayStation 5 Early

Too far? Maybe.

We're officially nine days away from the launch of the PlayStation 5 here in the UK, and it's safe to say that excitement is at an all-time high. Personally, I'm wishing the days away as I habitually check the status of my Amazon pre-order and go to bed at 9:30pm in the hopes that a new day comes quicker and brings me one step closer to Demon's Souls and Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

I think we can all agree that at this crucial stage, it would be the dream if a PlayStation 5 were to show up on our door earlier than expected. Well, thanks to some incredibly savage prank work from one evil genius/girlfriend, that's exactly what one poor guy thought had happened.

As reported by LADbible, PlayStation enthusiast Luke Coburn said he was absolute awestruck after his partner Rebecca Redbourn sent him a text message designed to make him think she'd secured a PlayStation 5 early, and that he'd get it for Christmas.

The text read: "Omg look what just got delivered. The box is huge!!! How am I supposed to hide that until Christmas?!"

However, Luke soon received a second message from his girlfriend claiming that she'd sent the message to him instead of her sister by mistake, and that she'd "accidentally" ruined the surprise. "Ignore that," she pleaded.

"You best be f***ing joking," Luke replied, clearly struggling to contain his excitement at his present. Rebecca kept the joke going for a fair bit too, sending another shot of the console and prompting Luke to fly into a loving rant about how he didn't deserve her and how he had no idea how he could match such a generous gift.

Of course Rebecca couldn't leave her boyfriend on the hook for much longer, and eventually came clean - much to Luke's disappointment. To make things even worse for him, she then shared screenshots of her prank in action online, ensuring her deception went viral.

"We will still have an amazing Christmas," Rebecca explained after the dust from the prank had settled. "Although, I don't think Luke will be happy unwrapping a pair of socks rather than the PS5 he was expecting. He's such a wind up, we've been together almost four years now and he's constantly playing pranks around the house.

"Mainly jumping out on me and recording my reaction and using fake spiders to scare me. Now we've got two young boys, he gets them involved too. I am outnumbered. Luke has already admitted that nothing he will do [to prank me] can top this but I know that won't stop him. He will do everything to come up with something bigger and better."

"I'm still a bit gutted about it," Luke admitted. "I'm starting to see the funny side, but obviously she had me a good one. I was a bit sceptical at first but then when she sent me a photo of it behind the bedroom door upstairs, that's when I believed her even more."

"I was telling everyone at work and showing them the picture of the PlayStation 5 she got me. Obviously I said how much I love it and don't deserve it, and I couldn't believe it. She messaged me then saying she couldn't keep it going anymore and it was an Instagram filter."

"I'm definitely going to plan a good revenge, it's just what. How do I top it? She's gone viral with it."
