Well, there it is. As suspected, Naughty Dog capped off Sunday's celebrations with an exclusive first look at HBO's upcoming live-action adaptation of The Last Of Us.

If you're a fan of the video games, you'll know that September 26, 2013 is the day the Cordyceps virus spiraled out of control and ravaged the world, serving as the catalyst to Joel and Ellie's adventure. Naughty Dog typically likes to mark this day in the real world with special announcements, discounts, and merch - and this year certainly didn't disappoint.

While it's not the trailer many of us might have been hoping for, this is still a pretty stunning teaser. No, we can't see their faces yet, but Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey look the part Joel and Ellie. The attention to detail is spot-on too, from the badges on Ellie's backpack to the faint streaks of grey in Joel's hair.

We know that the first series of The Last Of Us will adapt the plot of the 2013 game. Joel must travel with Ellie across America in the hopes of delivering her to the Fireflies, so that they can use her to find a cure for the virus that has torn the world apart. Along the way they'll face threats from both humans and infected, and do whatever it takes to survive.

The Last Of Us is expected to air at some point in 2022, and is being produced by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann, who directed the video games. It was also recently announced that Druckmann will be directing at least one episode of the live-action series, which will be fascinating to see.
