Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has finally been officially announced, and as we all suspected, it looks like Venom will be facing down Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Insomniac's superhero sequel will launch on PlayStation 5 in 2023.

Take a look at the trailer below!

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is perhaps not a huge surprise, given the fact that Insomniac's original game and excellent Miles Morales sequel were critical and commercial hits. Still, this is the first properly official confirmation we've had, and it's excellent to see Peter Parker back in action alongside Miles, who proved himself as his own kind of Spider-Man in his 2020 solo adventure.

If you've played both and have been paying attention to Inomniac's entirely original Spider-Man universe, you'll also know that the developer has been teasing Venom for quite some time. Without getting too deep into spoiler territory, it looks as if this version of Venom might not be quite the same as the one we're used to.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, it also sounds like Kraven The Hunter is the chap narrating the start of the trailer. Talking about how he's searched the world for an equal and a new challenge certainly seems like the Kraven we know, so don't be shocked if he shows up alongside Venom as one of the game's villains.

I'd imagine the sequel will also pick up some of the other story threads left by Marvel's Spider-Man, including Otto's betrayal and Normon Osborn's desperate attempt to seek a cure for Harry - which will almost certainly result in the eventual birth of the Green Goblin.

All we have to do now is wait until 2023. If you don't mind, I'm going to go lie down and wish away the next year or so, okay? Meet you back here soon.

Oh, and Insomniac Games also just announced a new Wolverine game. Because, you know, it's not already busy enough.
