Massive PlayStation Showcase Strongly Rumoured For Early July

PlayStation, it's your time to shine. After missing E3 2021, fans have been waiting patiently for Sony to bring something to the table - its own showcase, in its own time. We all knew it would be a little bit after E3 before a State of Play would be announced, and now it's strongly rumoured that we'll be seeing what PlayStation is up to in early July.

The source of these new rumours is ExpSevDavis on Twitter, a game developer with an insider source who has been previously right about other Sony secrets. According to the dev, we will be seeing a PlayStation showcase between July 6 and 12, 2021. The source of this news didn't confirm an exact date, but hinted that we will be hearing about this showcase, and getting its date confirmed, on either Thursday, July 1 or Friday, July 2.

PlayStation has been rather quiet lately - except for Guerrilla Games' Horizon Forbidden West gameplay reveal, which looked spectacular. Check it out...

ExpSevDavis claims that this source is reliable because they previously told him that Final Fantasy VII Remake was going to be free on PlayStation Plus in March, and that Horizon Zero Dawn would be free from April onwards - both of which turned out to be true. So if this is a real source who provided all of these details, it's a solid sign that we're going to be seeing a showcase from PlayStation, said to be between 80 and 90 minutes long, in early July.

So what could we see at this showcase? Well, it's likely we'll see more of Horizon Forbidden West following the gameplay reveal from late May. Back then, we saw some of the abilities and challenges Aloy will be facing on her next adventure - so perhaps PlayStation will deepen these details a little, and maybe even give us a release date, as we're still expecting this one to come out in 2021.

We're also hopefully going to see our first proper look at the game we're still calling God of War 2: Ragnarok - the sequel to 2018's multi-award-winning God of War. Though the game has been delayed until next year, Santa Monica Studio has been rumoured to be gearing up to finally show fans its hard work, so there could be gameplay featured as part of the next State of Play. And beyond that? We've heard loads of rumours about a PlayStation-exclusive Silent Hill revival, which could show up; and there's also the Ghost of Tsushima expansion, Ghost of Ikishima, which is apparently coming out this year.
