PlayStation Plus Free Games For January 2021 Announced

Start the New Year right.

2020 has been, for want of a better phrase, a real playground bully of a year. I won't go over all the reasons why, as they've been covered in exhaustive detail for the last 365 days... but we made it. Well done, us, because 2021 is less than 24 hours away.

Obviously 2021 isn't going to magically wipe the slate clean and fix everything that happened this year. It'll take a lot more work before we're truly out of the woods. But midnight on January 1st provides us all with a chance to take a breath and enjoy the prospect of something resembling a real step forward towards normality. 2021 will be better, if only because it has to be.

As I say though, January 2021 won't be the magic shift back to "normal" life that we're all hoping for. For at least the next few months here in the UK, I'd expect there'll be plenty more lockdown action to go around. A good thing, then, that the PlayStation Plus free games for January 2021 offer three really rather excellent little titles for subscribers to the online service to download and play.

Starting Tuesday, January 5th, PlayStation 4 users can download Shadow Of The Tomb Raider and Greedfall, two substantial single-player titles that'll take up a lot of your time next month. The former is the last in the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy, and a rather divisive title. The latter is a pretty impressive open-world RPG that kind of combines The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Both are definitely worth your time.

PS5 users will also be able to download these games, plus Maneater. You might not be familiar with the name of this one, but you've almost definitely seen it before - early footage of the game went viral last year after being described as "GTA with sharks", and it actually kind of lives up to that promise.

All three games will be available to add to your library until February 1st, at which point you can download and play them whenever you'd like... for as long as you keep paying daddy Sony for that PS Plus subscription.

Don't forget to download December's PS Plus offerings, which include Just Cause 4, Rocket Arena, and Worms Rumble.
