PlayStation Plus Free Games For June 2021 Announced

The PlayStation Plus free games for June 2021 have been confirmed by Sony, and surprising nobody, it looks like the earlier leak was 100% accurate.

Once again. we're getting two PlayStation 4 games and one extra PlayStation 5 game, although it's worth noting that PS4 subscribers can still add the PS5 game to their library and download it if/when they get a next-gen console. The three free games are Star Wars Squadrons, Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, and Operation: Tango.

That's a pretty solid lineup right there, although I'm sure there'll be the usual raft of people who disagree and complain PlayStation Plus is rubbish these days. Ah well, you can't please everyone.

Star Wars Squadrons is the game I'm most excited about, certainly. Last year EA released this excellent multiplayer sci-fi space battle sim, and nowhere near enough people played it at the time. Here's hoping its inclusion as a PS Plus freebie helps it get a bit more well-deserved attention. Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, meanwhile, is a brand-new release... by which I mean it's an as-yet unreleased PS4 version of the classic arcade brawler, complete with all sorts of bells, whistles, and other new features.

Operation: Tango is the game available only on PlayStation 5, and it certainly looks interesting. Another game that isn't actually out until June 1, Operation: Tango is a multiplayer spy adventure with a fun twist: You'll embark on missions with friends across a series of levels, but you can't actually see what your ally is doing at any given moment. You'll have to use voice chat to communicate, sync up, and complete tasks to the best of your ability. Should be good fun.

Don't forget that the arrival of a new batch of PlayStation Plus freebies means you have only a few more days to claim this month's offerings. May 2021 is a solid lineup consisting of Battlefield V, Stranded Deep, and the PlayStation 5-enhanced port of Wreckfest.
