PlayStation Plus October Freebie To Be Hardcore WWII Shooter, Evidence Suggests

War is Hell Let Loose

We're only halfway through September, but an intriguing mountain of evidence regarding one of October 2021's PlayStation Plus free games is already starting to pile up.

This month, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners with a subscription to the online service can get their hands on Hitman 2, Predator Hunting Grounds, and Overcooked! All You Can Eat (PS5 only). It's a fun month packed with some old bangers to be sure... but it looks like next month Sony will be offering something a little newer.

While this is by no means confirmed (I really can't stress that enough), there's compelling evidence to suggest one of October's freebies is none other than Team 17's popular World War II shooter Hell Let Loose.

PC users have had Hell Let Loose for a couple of years now, and a dedicated community who can't speak highly enough about the shooter has sprung up around it in that team. Team 17 describes the game as a "hardcore World War II first person shooter with epic battles of 100 players with infantry, tanks, artillery, a dynamically shifting front line and a unique resource based RTS-inspired meta-game". Sound like your cup of tea?

Over on Reddit, bluebelt2023 has assembled a strong argument for Hell Let Loose being an October PS Plus game. For one thing, the game launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S October 5, which would land it right around the time Sony usually makes new PS Plus games available to download (the first Tuesday of the month). This wouldn't be the first time Sony released a new multiplayer game as a PS Plus freebie to give it a boost: we saw the same thing with Rocket League and Fall Guys, remember.

There's also the fact that pre-orders for Hell Let Loose are open now via the Microsoft Store, but there's no such option on the PlayStation Store. Beta access, however, has so far been PS5 only, with no word of Xbox access.

If I were a betting man, I'd probably put good money on Hell Let Loose being an October freebie for PS Plus subscribers. The good news is we don't have long to wait to find out. The next batch of free games will be announced at the end of the month.
