Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is arriving as a PlayStation 5 exclusive on June 11, 2021, Sony has confirmed. Announced late last year, Insomniac Games' upcoming sequel will be the first major first-party PS5 release of the year, and it. Is. Looking. Good.

"The intergalactic adventurers are back with a bang," reads the official synopsis. "Help them stop a robotic emperor intent on conquering cross-dimensional worlds, with their own universe next in the firing line."

Unlike the last Ratchet & Clank, which was a kind-of remake of the very first game, Rift Apart is an entirely original game with an all-new adventure for the lovable Lombax and his robot chum. While the story might be new, the tried-and-tested sci-fi platforming gameplay is all present and correct, with plenty of bells and whistles that promise to make the most out of the next-gen hardware.

Previous trailers showed off the console's ultra-fast SSD making instant loading possible as our heroes pinged between entire worlds in seconds. I'm already salivating at the trippy set pieces Insomniac has in store for us as we jump from dimension to dimension in the blink of an eye.

The new features aren't limited to the PS5 itself, though. Late last year Insomniac Games detailed some of the ways in which the DualSense will add to the experience through things like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

"The adaptive triggers are something we're excited to feature," wrote the game's creative director Marcus Smith. "For instance, the Enforcer is a dual-barreled shotgun type weapon. As you pull the trigger, you'll fire from one barrel, and you can feel resistance around halfway down the trigger. Need a bigger blast? Pull the trigger through that resistance point and you'll fire both barrels at the same time."

Basically, everyone here at GAMINGbible is super excited for this one. Ratchet & Clank is back, baby!
