Well this is odd: we're all still out here waiting for news on the free PlayStation Plus games for March. Meanwhile, Sony has gone and announced the first free game for subscribers in April.

As announced during Sony's State Of Play presentation mere moments ago, the long-gestating Oddworld: Soulstorm will finally release on April 6 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

As an added bonus, PS5 users with a subscription to PlayStation Plus will get the game for free. PS4 users, sadly, will have to fork out and pay if they want to get their hands on the latest Oddworld adventure. Still, it certainly looks worth the money, as it seems to be shaping up beautifully. You can check out the latest trailer below:

The PS5 version will come with a number of enhancements, including superior loading times and features that make the most out of the DualSense controller's shiny next-gen features. I never knew I wanted to feel Abe's fragile little heartbeat pumping through my controller until now, but life comes at you fast.

For those who haven't been following development on this one, Soulstorm is billed as a direct sequel to 2014's New N' Tasty, which was a remake of the first game in the series. Don't expect this new entry to be a straight up remake of the original sequel, Abe's Exoddus though - this new entry is something more.

As you can see from the above trailer, Soulstorm retains the side scrolling nature of the original games while giving the 3D environments an incredible amount of scope, scale, and depth. New N' Tasty was described as 2.5D, but Lorne Lanning and his team are calling this "2.9D", on account of the way characters and objects almost seem burst out of the screen. I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on this one when April 6 rolls around.
