If you're still on the hunt for a PlayStation 5, today could be your lucky day. UK retailer Smyths Toy Stores is taking pre-orders for Sony's new console this morning (October 5), but you'll have to be quick.
News of the restock was first reported by PS5 Stock UK (via, VGC). It clamed that Smyths would be taking pre-orders for the standard and digital PS5 models from 9am this morning, but only in stores. The Independent has since confirmed that as of 9am, the retailer is indeed taking orders in store. There's no telling how much stock Smyths has or how long this pre-order window will be open for, but I'd imagine you'll need to be quick.
Customers looking to secure an order will need to put down a £20 deposit. After that, you should receive your shiny new console around October 16-20.
According to the retailer's website, there are over 100 Smyths stores across the UK and Ireland. Hopefully you don't have too much trouble finding one before the pre-orders are maxed out. If you're reading this at the time of publication, it's already a little after 9am so you will have to be quick.
If you've just arrived at work, maybe tell your boss you need to nip to the toilet. And then, you know, nip to Smyths instead. This definitely seems more important than work, right?
As I'm sure you're all too aware, Sony has been struggling to meet demand for the PlayStation 5 since the console launched nearly one year ago today. Part of this is because of a semiconductor shortage caused by the pandemic, but scalpers buying up what little stock there is and selling it on for greatly inflated prices hasn't helped either.
If you're still without a PlayStation 5, I wish you the best of luck this morning. May the odds ever be in your favour.
