Mass Effect Legendary Edition is just over one week away from release, and fans are giddy at the thought of once again reliving the iconic sci-fi trilogy... as well as most likely making the exact same choices and boning the exact same characters all over again.

With the remaster's release just around the corner, you might be wondering which platform you're better off playing on - assuming you have the choice, of course. Given how difficult it currently is to get a PlayStation 5, not everyone out there currently owns Sony and Microsoft's next-gen hardware.

Take a look at how the original Mass Effect games stack up against the remaster below!

In a new blog post, EA has gone into great detail about how the game will perform on each platform. All console versions of the game will allow players to choose between favouring quality or framerate. As EA explains, selecting quality "prioritizes achieving the highest visual fidelity possible in exchange for a lower target framerate". Meanwhile, framerate "prioritizes the highest framerate possible by scaling native resolution and reducing some graphical features."

Obviously the next-gen consoles are the best choice: choosing quality allows for up to 60fps at 4K UHD on both platforms. If you're more of a framerate fan, however, the Xbox Series X blows its rival right out of the water by offering up to 120fps at 1440p - that's a heck of a lot more than the PlayStation 5's 60fps at 1440p.

In addition to the usual bumps to framerates and resolution, Legendary Edition is also making some major changes to gameplay. The first game in particular has been almost completely overhauled: you can check out a full list of gameplay adjustments right here.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles, and PC on May 14.
