Though both PlayStation and Xbox aren't all that interested in comparing themselves to one another all day every day, there's no doubt some lingering competitiveness from their fans over the pros and cons to each platform. And now that comparison has made it all the way to live services and how frequently each of them go down.
As GameRant reports, ToolTester has conducted a study to see which of the most popular services and websites had the most outages over the past twelve months in the USA. And as it turns out, Xbox Live experienced quite a few more outages than the PlayStation Network: 63 to 49. However, if we're talking about gaming services and how many times they've gone down during that time, Discord and Steam have them beat.
PlayStation has recently got some new important software updates...
We can talk all day about the advantages or disadvantages of Xbox and PlayStation, but Discord and Steam were the real winners (or perhaps losers) of this specific challenge. Discord was right at the top of the outages graph with 129 over the last 12 months and Steam had a total of 99. In third was Instagram with 81, fourth was YouTube with 65, and fifth was Microsoft Teams with 64. On the scale, Xbox Live came sixth, and PlayStation Network was down at ninth.
Honestly, if you're like me and you spend quite a lot of time on Discord, then you might not be surprised at the frequency of the platform going down compared to the other sites. More than once I've been happily talking to mates and sudden I don't think they can hear me, we all start trying to message each other asking if anyone is talking or if it's dead, and then suddenly our late-night chilling session comes to an abrupt end.
