Announced on Pokémon Day, Pokémon 25: The Album will be released to celebrate the anniversary of the series, and will include artists like Post Malone, Katy Perry, J Balvin, and more.

Bit of an odd one, but if you think about it, sounds and music are a very important part of the world of Pokémon. Listening in the wild area, you'll hear the critters cry and chirp to one another, and by the end of your adventure, you'll be a regular Attenborough, binos in hand and able to tell me anything I'd like to know about the pocket monsters. Adding onto this, the Trainers and Elite Four boast some absolute bangers as their battle themes - here's looking at you, Cynthia. And, the animals themselves have been inspired by musical instruments. Chingling and Chimecho are wind chimes, Maractus is a set of maracas, Chatot is literally a musical note who echoes sounds and arranges them into new songs, and of course, the Igglybuff line are famous for their hypnotising melodies.

The exciting announcement regarding the new album arose after Post Malone's virtual concert, which had the rapper singing alongside a giant Pikachu and flying through the skies with Braviary. It was cool, actually, and signified that The Pokémon Company is only getting warmed up for the rest of the celebrations set for this year.

As part of P25: Music, Pokémon 25: The Album will have 14 songs from 11 artists, and three have been revealed: Post Malone (with his cover of I Only Wanna Be With You), Katy Perry, and J Balvin. All of the artists will be of the Universal Music Group, and the grand total of possible collaborators is as long as your arm. Trying to guess who will be next would be like trying to find a Klefki in a haystack. Still, I'm holding out hope for Taylor Swift to give it a go with a haunting ballad, live from the Glimwood Tangle. Those wanting to keep up with Pokémon 25: The Album can pre-save it to their Spotify account here.

"Pokémon is pulling out all the stops for P25 Music, and I'm thrilled to join the program as one of its premier collaborators," said J Balvin in the announcement. "I'm looking forward to adding my own unique flavor to this huge Pokémon party and adding more good vibes to the celebration."
