'Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver' Coming To Switch, Report Claims

There aren't many things I'm willing to fight for, but I will always stand by the fact that Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver are the best Pokémon games to date. Released way back in 2009 for the Nintendo DS, HeartGold & SoulSilver were ground-up remakes of Gold & Silver, improving on two already excellent games with enhanced graphics, streamlined menus, a greater variety of Pokémon, and online trading and battling.

Heck, just talking about the game makes me want to dig out my 3DS and find my old copy of HeartGold. A stone cold classic. That's why I'm particularly excited to learn that Nintendo is reportedly considering bringing HeartGold & SoulSilver back for Nintendo Switch, where it will 100% take over what little life I have left.

Take this rumour with a pinch of salt for now, as it's far from the surest thing. Twitter user abcboy101 was first to point out that Nintendo recently renewed the trademarks for HeartGold & SoulSilver. This could mean any number of things, and is likely for nothing more than merchandising purposes... but there's also a chance the move is indicative of a port for Switch - if not an outright remake.

Of course if these Pokémon titles really were coming to Switch, I suspect they'd need to be a little more than straight ports. The DS made use of two screens, after all, so Nintendo would need to find a way to adapt or change this to suit Switch's one-screen setup.

Then again, perhaps these trademark renewals hint at something similar to HeartGold & SoulSilver, while not actually being a port or remake. There have been rumours for the past year or so suggesting that Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are planning a sequel to Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee set in the Johto region.

Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee were sort-of-but-not-really remakes of the original Red & Blue, so a future Let's Go game could very well adapt Gold & Silver in similar style. How about Let's Go Espeon & Umbreon?

Whether it's a port, a remake, or something a little stranger, I'd be more than happy to book in a return trip to Johto in the near future. You can try and tell me that Gen 2 wasn't the best of the bunch, but you'd be wrong. Remember, I said I'd fight you on this - and I will.
