Pokémon Meets 'Stardew Valley' In 'Monster Harvest'

Pokémon Meets 'Stardew Valley' In 'Monster Harvest'

A dream combination.

Looking to combine the sedate pace of farming sims like Stardew Valley with the adventure and rush of collecting and battling that only Pokémon can provide? My friends, Monster Harvest might just be the game for you.

Not to be confused with Monster Hunter, Harvest Moon, Monster Rancher, or Monster Sanctuary, Monster Harvest looks to be the latest indie release to put a spin on the classic Pokémon formula. Rather than go out and catch monsters in the wild, developer Merge Games' new effort simply asks you to... farm and grow your own creatures before taking them into battle.

Take a look at the trailer below:

"Monster Harvest is a monster collecting and farming action RPG with a twist," explains Merge Games. "Grow, collect and mutate your crops then take them into battle! Filled with places to discover and multiple ways to build your farm, get ready to craft, explore and battle across the vibrant world of Planimal Point."

Player looking for a new farming sim will be able to scratch that itch in Monster Harvest. There are crops to grow, things to upgrade, and items to build. Like Stardew Valley, you'll also get to know the locals and help them out with various tasks and other life-problems they probably shouldn't be sharing with a complete stranger.

The big twist here however, is that you can also mutate certain crops with magical slimes. This turns them into collectable monster sidekicks known as Planimals. Great name. You'll then be able to train and grow your Planimals as you take them into battle and experience a larger story that throws you into conflict with the evil SlimeCo. It all sounds utterly ridiculous, and I love it.

Monster Harvest is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on May 13.
