It looks as though the Power Rangers franchise is getting a bit of the Marvel treatment according to The Hollywood Reporter. End of the F***ing World creator Jonathan Entwhistle has reportedly been hired to oversee the new Power Rangers adventures across both big and small screens.

Entwhistle will be reimagining the popular franchise and creating a connected universe that expands across both film and TV. eOne, the Hasbro-owned production company, will be attempting to follow in Disney's footsteps with how the upcoming Disney+ TV series are all part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether this means the 2017 movie was the beginning of this whole new universe is a little up in the air.

Despite the fact that Power Rangers will be getting the MCU treatment, it's worth noting that the franchise did crossovers way before the MCU was even a thing. The first Power Ranger season debuted in 1994 and it was the beginning of the Rangers TV universe, much like Iron Man was the start of the MCU. As the seasons went by, new Rangers were introduced and then slowly crossovers began with old Rangers meeting new Rangers. Rangers of Two Worlds was the first official crossover between the seasons and it featured the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers teaming up with the Zeo Power Rangers.

With eOne green-lighting the franchise for a whole reimagining though, who knows what kind of mad shenanigans we can expect to see the new Rangers get up to. Perhaps we might even see some of the classic Rangers make a return, much like what CW did with the big DC universe crossover event, where they brought stars from old DC TV shows. All in all it looks as though the production company is going to really step up it's game with the Power Rangers franchise.

In the meantime though, fans can look forward to an all-new Power Rangers series making its debut in 2021. Power Rangers Dino Fury is the next in the long-arching Rangers TV series heading to Nickelodeon in which a brand new team of Rangers are recruited to deal with a powerful alien army that's being unleashed on Earth.
