Return of the king. Well, prince.

Could Prince Of Persia be making a comeback? Ubisoft's premier hack-and-slash/platforming franchise has been on ice for - let me just check my notes - ten years now, discounting a dodgy mobile game in 2018. Wow. The Prince has been absent for a decade. The good news is that some recent activity from Ubisoft suggests that our royal friend could be about to return.

Only last week, Ubisoft registered the domain name for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, somewhat spoiling the name and setting of the new game just hours before its official reveal. Now, the good folk of Reddit have noticed that Ubisoft has registered a domain for something called princeofpersia6.com. There can be little doubt as to what that is, right?

As always, I'd advise you take this whole thing with a hefty pinch of salt (or sand, maybe, in this instance). Prince Of Persia 6 is a very specific domain, yes, but it might not necessarily be a new game. Hell, it could be mobile app for all we know. With that said, the "6" is the crucial clue here that I think strongly suggests we're looking a new, full game in the series.

There have been way more than six Prince Of Persia games over the years, but if Ubisoft is starting its count with 2003's The Sands Of Time and only including console games, then we have said game, Warrior Within, The Two Thrones, Prince Of Persia, and The Forgotten Sands. If this new entry isn't a spinoff or mobile game, then it would indeed be the sixth on that list.

Adding a saucy layer of thickness to this plot is the fact that Microsoft will be showcasing a bunch of third-party Xbox Series X games later this week. We know Ubisoft will be showing off some Assassin's Creed Valhalla gameplay during the event, but is that all the publisher is bringing to the party? If a domain has been registered, then a reveal can't be far off at all.

Rumours of a Prince Of Persia revival have been swirling for quite some time now. But then again, so have rumours of a new entry in the Splinter Cell franchise, and look where that's gotten us. What I'm saying, my dear friends, is that we should approach this one with caution.

Personally, I'd love to see Prince Of Persia back in action. The Sands Of Time was one of my favourite games growing up, but if a franchise has been dormant for a decade? I dunno, it almost seems too good to be true.
