‘Rainbow Six Quarantine’ Could Be A Co-op Shooter Spinoff Based On Outbreak

Rumours of a 'Rainbow Six Siege' spinoff called 'Quarantine' are circulating ahead of Ubisoft's E3 conference on Monday.

Last year saw the Rainbow Six team release a limited time event called Outbreak. Unlike the standard versus affair of Rainbow Six Siege, it was a co-op game where players fought together through waves of infected. It looks like the mode may have been spun off into a separate game called Quarantine and the rumour is that it will be announced officially by Ubisoft in the next few days.

According to industry insider Nibel, "Rainbow Six Quarantine is a co-op PVE shooter that will be announced at Ubisoft's E3 2019". This is tied to what Kotaku's Jason Schreier has been saying, which is that the sci-fi game Pioneer, which was first teased in Watch Dogs 2, was retooled into a co-op shooter using the Rainbow Six engine. That project is apparently what became Quarantine.

We recently spoke to Ubisoft about Outbreak and whether it planned to fun similar events in Rainbow Six Siege in future. "Outbreak was a successful experiment for us, allowing us to test some of the limitations and some of the gameplay that was interesting for us," Rainbow Six Siege brand director Alexandre Remy told us. "The main lesson that we had is Rainbow Six Siege is a multiplayer game, and dedicating our time to building such an experience for so short amount of time was not worthwhile. "

At the time as well Remy told us not to get our hopes up for a traditional single player Rainbow Six game any time soon. "I think the future for single player is unfortunately a little grim," he said. "When it comes to Siege our focus always has been multiplayer. This is what we want to build as the game, as well as the experience for players. We do feel that the mission of a new player should be to be tutored and mentored into the PvP. There are tons of amazing solo games by Ubisoft and other publishers that will always be better than what Siege can do in that regard."

His answer does, however, leave the door open for a co-op spin off.

This is also assuming that Quarantine, if it exists, is going to be Rainbow Six branded. While it may be born out of the Outbreak event and be built in the same engine, it might not carry much else from Siege into it. We may not, for instance, see the same operators.

We'll learn more at Ubisoft's E3 conference on Monday but this has fast become one of the most exciting rumours of the convention for me. What do you think of a Rainbow Six Siege spinoff?
