Cara Dune, played by Gina Carano, as you might have heard is no longer going to be part of the Star Wars universe. The character played by the ex-MMA fighter will be excluded from The Mandalorian after Disney decided to not recast the actress following warnings about her online behaviour.
Carano is now working on her own projects with Ben Shapiro, of all people, but now there is a bit of a gap in the casting ideas for the other projects Dune was rumoured to star in. Who will take Dune's place on other missions? Well according to GameRant, that could be Hera Syndulla from Star Wars Rebels.
Disney is really pulling out all the stops when it comes to making series' based on the Star Wars universe. We already have The Mandalorian, but we know we're waiting on Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Ashoka and Andor series' too, but additionally we're getting Rangers of the New Republic. This would follow the movements of the Republic and there have been rumours that Dune was going to be part of this series as well. In season 2 of The Mandalorian, there are hints of her returning to help the Republic regain some control, however, it's obvious this is no longer an option.
We already knew Ezra Bridger from Rebels is joining the Ashoka cast and now these rumours, sourced from LRM Online, suggest Hera Syndulla is filling the hole left by Dune in Rangers of the New Republic. And it makes sense, although they are very much their own characters, they're both strong women fighting for the cause in their own way.
This is all speculation, for now. There are no real pieces of evidence to say that Dune was certainly part of Rangers of the New Republic nor that we know Hera will be joining the cast. However, from all the crossovers happening right now, it doesn't feel like an unlikely connection.
