That's one powerful weapon.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has been the PlayStation 5's technical highlight in much of the console's marketing so far. Although the game is family-friendly and Pixar-like on the surface, it looks like it's going to be one of the most technically impressive games we've ever seen, using the PS5's SSD technology to fling Ratchet and Rivet across dimensions. But what we didn't expect is the game's biggest gun to bring in items from other games altogether.

The Insomniac Games Twitter account ran a 'takeover' from the new game's characters - Ratchet, Clank and Rivet - on June 7, wherein the developers showed off the RYNO 8. RYNOs are the most powerful weapons in the Ratchet & Clank games. They're the cherry on top of the arsenal Ratchet gets his hands on, and always a blast to use against your foes. This time around the RYNO 8 has an unexpected feature - it creates rifts so big that other Sony properties get sucked into Rift Apart.

In case you missed it, here is some of the awesome gameplay from Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart...

Insomniac posted a bunch of images of rifts appearing in other Sony games, from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End to Horizon Zero Dawn. The effect on Rift Apart is that the RYNO 8's shots are strong enough to make the occasional rift in space and time, and allow the entire Thunderjaw to appear in the platformer.

Honestly, it was pretty nice to see other developers get in on the fun. Naughty Dog tweeted about Nathan Drake and Sully losing their 4x4, and the Sunset Overdrive account (an Xbox console exclusive game, remember - for now, at least) joked about its mascot Fizzie appearing in the game, too. Most notably though, the Thunderjaw machine from Guerrilla Games' Horizon series makes a terrifying appearance sometimes - the RYNO 8 is just flexing at this point.

It won't be long until you can get your hands on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart as the game releases on June 11, 2021 exclusively on PlayStation 5.
