'Red Dead Online' Players Attacked By Two-Headed Skeleton Hackers

'Red Dead Online' Players Attacked By Two-Headed Skeleton Hackers

Undead Nightmare.

Red Dead Online players recently experienced their very own undead nightmare... but not the kind anybody wanted or expected. No, instead of a fulsome zombie-themed DLC adventure, players of the online Western epic have reported that they're under attack from - let me just check my notes - two headed skeletons. Um...

According to multiple accounts on Reddit, these skeletal monsters are appearing from nowhere to challenge fellow players to fist fights. I'm not entirely sure why, or even how, this is happening. Maybe the skeletons just want some body to play with? Right? RIGHT? God, I hate myself.

Anyway, I didn't really believe this myself until I saw video evidence. Please take a look at the clip below so you can see for yourself just how utterly strange this occurrence is.

As you can see from the video above, the skeleton looks to be invulnerable... though it did decide to haul bony ass the minute the player turned a gun on it. Maybe it just decided it was time to go about its wicked business elsewhere? I simply do not know.

Another, incredibly amusing account on Steam even details how they were attacked by one hacker controlling a two-headed skeleton before being ambushed by another player controlling a robot. In this instance the player was able to overpower and ultimately imprison the two attackers. Red Dead Online is super weird, y'all.

Everyone seems to agree that these mischievous skeletons are almost exclusively appearing on the PC version of Red Dead Online and are likely the work of hackers, which makes sense. Or as much sense as a two-headed skeleton attacking cowboys can make, anyway.

Without spoiling anything, a two-headed skeleton does exist somewhere in the single-player campaign... so it's obviously not too outlandish a notion that a hacker or hackers could have worked out how to make use of the "skin" for their own amusement.

Personally, I feel like knowing an immortal skeletal monster could attack at any time would make the online Western that much more thrilling. Sadly, Rockstar will almost certainly frown upon whoever is doing this and will surely crack down accordingly. Our skeleton friends might be impervious to other players, but ain't none of us safe from the fearsome heft of Rockstar's ban hammer.

If nothing else, this is probably the closest to a new Undead Nightmare that we're ever gonna get. In this respect, the hackers are almost providing a service. Almost.
