'Red Dead Online' Halloween Update To Feature A Zombie Army

Rockstar Games its gearing up for its Red Dead Online Halloween event, and it sounds like things are going to get pretty damn scary. A new datamine appears to confirm that an army of undead monsters are coming to the open world MMO, although we're not entirely sure what it is they're going to do - besides generally shamble around acting creepy.

A new video uploaded by Red Dead Guides (thanks, PCGamesN) shows that nearly 50 zombie character models have been discovered in the games files. Weirdly, they're all kitted out in some kind of cult-like robes - all of which fall under the "army of fear" tag. Back in July, dataminer MuzTuber came across some mysterious audio tracks under the name "Fear of Us", which strongly implies a limited-time event for the spooky Halloween period.

Take a look at the video from Red Dead Guides below for a better look at these undead character models.

While the evidence of an incoming zombie incursion is clear, nobody seems entirely certain what it is these monsters will do whenever Rockstar decides to release them into the game. The most likely scenario is a special mode in which players have to team up together to hunt/survive against a horde of zombies, or maybe even some kind of zombie-themed battle royale where the last player to be infected takes the crown.

Neither outcome would be the sequel to 2010's Undead Nightmare that Red Dead Redemption fans so desperately crave, but Rockstar Games seems to have long-since abandoned the idea of single-player DLC. These ghoulish corpses are probably the closest we'll get to another Red Dead zombie encounter, so my advice is to take it while you can.

There's no word on when exactly this zombie-filled update could drop, but the smart money is on Rockstar getting it ready in time for Halloween. That gives you plenty of time to jump back into Red Dead Online and prepare all the gear and allies you might need if you want to survive a zombie army. Best of luck to you, partner.
