'Red Dead Redemption 2' Players Start Petition For Single-Player DLC

Right now, Red Dead Redemption 2 players are like a cat on a hot tin roof, pacing the badlands of the Wild West back and forth, because they're waiting for single-player story DLC.

They've even come together over a petition asking Rockstar Games to consider the possibility of expanding upon the base game's story and world. Notice that the petition was actually started about two years ago, but it's gaining traction again now, with 2,100 signatures towards a goal of 2,500 signatures. "I've thought the same thing since the launch of this game and honestly, I would rather pay for more content," said Joseph Janoki, one of the gamers backing the petition. "The DLC content doesn't even have to be about the main characters from RDR2's Campain [sic] if it somehow impacts plans for, let's say an RDR3."

"Rockstar could essentially do what they did with GTA 4, adding two alternate stories that take place on the same map (The Ballad of Gay Tony/The Lost & Damned). Just make new interesting characters in the same open world with a great story to tell. Personally, I could settle for that over RDR's online," they continued. Yes, it appears that there is some ire directed at the game's multiplayer mode in the comments underneath the petition, claiming that its microtransactions are too prolific and that the online content could be offered in a single-player DLC.

Red Dead Online's updates haven't always been timely (at one point, players dressed up as clowns to protest a seven-month gap), but they have been rather exciting when they have released. Players are able to pursue Specialist Roles, from Bounty Hunter to Moonshiner, which unlock new perks, skills and items along a progression tree. Also, players form a Posse made up of other players, and impact on the world through determinant choices in storylines. Those who signed the petition are wondering if, with a new character or one of the members of Dutch's gang, these experiences could be translated into a single-player affair. It's not a bad pitch, to be fair.

Another idea is that Rockstar Games develops an Undead Nightmare for Red Dead Redemption 2. Whenever there's been the merest whiff of rotting flesh in Red Dead Online, the community has been clamouring and frothing at the mouth for a retro romp. That's understandable, as the original expansion received rave reviews, and who wouldn't want to rampage through the Wild West, slaying the shambling masses?

Though the petition is active, there's no guarantee that there will be single-player DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar Games' focus is on supporting its live titles, and of them, Grand Theft Auto Online is getting the most TLC. The Cayo Perico heist, the biggest heist in the game so far, has only just gone live and adds a whole new island to create chaos on.
