For my money, movie trilogies don't get much better than The Lord Of The Rings. Peter Jackson's sprawling three-film odyssey is an emotional rollercoaster filled with beautifully realised versions of Tolkien's characters. From Bilbo Baggin's Birthday bash, to the climatic Battle Of The Black Gate, it really does just hit different. Too long, you say? Be quiet and pass me the extended cut of Return Of The King.
While I can - and often do - watch the trilogy over and over again at home, there's no denying that The Lord Of The Rings was made to be viewed on the biggest screen possible. That's why it's exciting to see that IMAX has confirmed it plans to show remastered versions of the original trilogy on the big screen.
"For the first time in IMAX, experience the magic of Middle-Earth. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is making its debut on the BIG screen. Remastered by Peter Jackson in stunning 4K, experience the epic in IMAX theatres Feb 5," IMAX shared on Twitter.

As cool as this is, it does come with some major caveats. Firstly, as many have pointed out, we are very much still in the middle of a major pandemic. Here in the UK, all cinemas are still closed while we deal with this latest wave of infections. There are, however, parts of the world that actually managed to get on top of things enough to open cinemas safely with strict precautions and guidelines in place, if you can imagine such a thing.
Whether you feel safe attending right now should obviously come down to where you live, the rate of infections, and if your nearest IMAX is even open, of course. Just make sure you're being safe and think about others. My hope is that IMAX will push this back for those countries that can't actually go to the cinema yet, because it's been well over a year since my last visit to the theatre, and I would love for Fellowship Of The Ring to be the first thing I see on a big screen once this whole mess is finally over.
