Resident Evil 2 Remake kicked off 2019 with a bang. Capcom's long-awaited remake of the 1998 survival horror was everything fans wanted - and needed - it to be. It was a tense, gory, thrilling gauntlet of zombies, puzzles, traps, and trenchcoat-wearing mutant assassins that made the poo fall right out. In short, it was an undisputed triumph and a stunning return to form for the iconic franchise.
We here at GAMINGbible loved it. Fans everywhere loved it. Critics around the world loved it. As Game Of The Year lists and awards start to crop up everywhere, don't be surprised if Resident Evil 2 Remake cleans up its fair share of plaudits. As a longtime fan of the Resident Evil franchise, it was a delight to see Capcom reinvigorate the stale series in such style. The only problem now? I want more.
The good news is that more is exactly what we're on track to get. According to a new report, Capcom is actively developing a Resident Evil 3 Remake. That in itself is incredibly exciting of course, but the cherry on this delicious sundae of news is that the alleged remake will apparently release next year. I need to sit down.

This latest rumour comes from YouTuber Spawn Wave, and multiple sources that spoke to VGC. They suggest that Capcom are pushing ahead with Resident Evil 3 Remake and intend to get it out sooner rather than later in response to the huge critical and commercial success of Resident Evil 2 Remake.
This tracks with what we'd previously heard about Resident Evil 3 Remake. Capcom said long before the Resident Evil 2 Remake launched that it would probably deliver on a remake of Resi 3 if the fans were enthusiastic enough about the idea of it. It's safe to say that the sales of Resident Evil 2 Remake and endless requests for another remake in the same style proved the enthusiasm was there.
More recently, Capcom's 2019 integrated report noted the success of Resident Evil 2 Remake and Devil May Cry V. Emboldened by the huge amounts of money that both titles managed to bring in, the company made it clear that we could expect more remakes and revivals of old IPs going forward.

"Our initiatives are to (1) strengthen digital sales, (2) bolster our title lineup through the full-scale execution of our 60-month and 52-week maps and (3) awaken dormant intellectual properties", Capcom write in its report.
Capcom shared a similar sentiment late last year when it told investors that they expected to build on the success of Resident Evil 2 remake by exploring older properties "as a part of a strategy to utilise our library of IP." All of this to say: a Resident Evil 3 Remake is an absolute no-brainer.
The only question now is exactly when in 2020 we might see a Resident Evil 3 Remake. I'd imagine that Capcom will be able to use the same engine and many of the assets from Resident Evil 2 Remake (as was the case with the original Resi 2 and 3). With that in mind, I'd hope we can expect the game sooner rather than later.

Geoff Keighley's Game Awards ceremony is next month, and there are always plenty of exciting announcements at that show. Might we see Resident Evil 3 Remake there? We'll have to wait and see.
