2019's Resident Evil 2 was a truly fantastic game that managed to improve on the 1998 original in every single way. A gory, endlessly tense gauntlet of puzzles and monsters, Capcom's survival horror was a genuine masterpiece and deserving of the adoration heaped upon it.

Praise in particular should go towards any sequences in Resident Evil 2 that featured Mr X, aka the Tyrant. The trench coat-wearing monster was an absolute terror in the remake, stomping after Leon and Claire through the zombie-filled halls of the Raccoon City Police Department with grim determination.

The first time I came face to face with him, I immediately ran for my life, only to come face to face with a small horde of zombies who quickly tore my face off. I needed a quiet sit down and a cry after that. But it can get worse. Much worse. If you thought Resident Evil 2's Mr X was a relentless SOB, get ready for Resident Evil 3's Nemesis.

The hulking mutant assassin was a terrifying and ever-present threat in the original 1999 game, but Capcom has teased that the upcoming remake will make the monster more horrific than ever before.

In a new interview with Official PlayStation Magazine, Capcom producer Peter Fabiano said that Nemesis will be able to stalk Resident Evil 3's Raccoon City at will, meaning it could show up to tear Jill Valentine's arms off and beat her with them at any given time.

"We certainly took some elements that we learned from putting together Resident Evil 2's Tyrant/Mr X," Fabiano explained. "But Nemesis is his own brand of terror, and a relentless pursuer who can use weapons. Resident Evil 3 has more open spaces and one of the things that makes Nemesis so frightening is that he is relentless and you never know when or where he might show up."

This sets Nemesis apart from Mr X in a pretty big way. After all, Mr X could surprise players to an extent, but would actually only show up to pursue players during certain points in the game. Nemesis, by comparison, will be gunning for you at all times. Oh lord, I am not ready for this.

The bad news is that we don't have much longer to wait before we're forced to stare down this terror for ourselves. Resident Evil 3 will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 3rd. There aren't enough clean trousers in all the world to adequately contain my fear.
