It's safe to say that Resident Evil has firmly found its groove again. Capcom has managed to steer the survival horror franchise back onto the right track following a handful of unfortunate missteps and boulder-punching shenanigans.

2017's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard proved that the series was still capable of intense scares, while the most recent Resident Evil Village struck just the right balance between action and terror. Capcom has already confirmed that Resident Evil 9 will end the trilogy that began in 7, and it's sounding like the next entry will be the most ambitious yet.

Take a look at one of the most terrifying sections of Resident Evil Village below!

Without giving away too much about Resident Evil Village for those who haven't played it, there are some interesting directions the next game in the series could take that really set it apart from its predecessors. The good news? The next installment has apparently been in development for years already, which means by the time it releases it should be one slick package.

According to industry insider AestheticGamer, Resident Evil 9 has been in development since 2018. By the time it releases, it will have been the longest-gestating Resident Evil game of all time. Hopefully with that extra time comes an ambitious piece of work that brings this new Resident Evil trilogy to a worthy close.

It's worth noting that AestheticGamer accurately reported on the setting and story of Village months before the game was ever announced, so this is a pretty reliable source.

Capcom has yet to share anything official on Resident Evil 9, but anyone who has rolled credits on Village will know where the series is headed next. I can't wait to see exactly how it all ends.
