Resident Evil Village is just around the corner, and it sounds like the vampire lady that everybody has been thirsting after isn't the only thing in the upcoming game that's massive.

In a recent interview with Official PlayStation Magazine (via GamesRadar), Resident Evil Village producer Peter Fabiano confirmed that the new game is "much larger" than its predecessor, Resident Evil 7. It's unclear whether this is a reference to the game's length or the size of the titular village, which has been rumoured to contain some open-world elements.

On a standard difficultly, Resident Evil 7 would take around 9-10 hours to complete. I certainly don't believe horror games need to much longer than that, but it'd certainly be cool if Capcom introduced multiple playthroughs, perhaps from the perspective of various characters? I'd quite like to stomp around and cause chaos as the super-tall vampire lady, so here's hoping that's an option.

Fabiano added that Resident Evil Village has "direct links with Resident Evil 7, both in terms of talent involved in making it and the tale it's going to tell". We already knew that the game would pick up with Ethan and his wife Mia, who have attempted to start a new life following the harrowing events at the Baker family residence.

Unfortunately the poor dude can't catch a break, and it's not long before he's thrown back into a world of monsters and mayhem. Fabiano explained that "the team grew quite attached to Ethan as a character so we knew we wanted to continue his story arc".

It's all sounding very promising so far, and the best part is we don't have long to wait before we can play. Resident Evil Village lurks onto PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on 7 May, 2021. In the meantime, there's also a brand new standalone demo that PlayStation 5 users can get their hands on right now.

Similar to the Resident Evil 7 demo from a few years ago, the Resident Evil Village Maiden demo is a prologue that sets up the full adventure. If you haven't already checked it out, you can explore Castle Dimitrescu without any weapons and get a little taste of the horrors to come. Yes, the vampire lady is there.
