Though Resident Evil Village releases this Friday, the demo has already become subject to modders' wicked whims and one of these twisted experiments adds Barney the Dinosaur to the monstrous enemies that the player must survive.

In the dark and dingy dungeons of Castle Dimitrescu, Ethan mows down skulking monsters that emerge from the shadows, wielding medieval swords and biting into his neck if he gets too close. In any other version of Resident Evil Village, these would be greyish humanoids not unlike vampires, because there are vampires in Resident Evil now. The eighth game is taking a very different tack to the grounded and claustrophobic horror of its predecessor, with a beautiful yet terrifying open-world where werewolves have emerged from the forests to hunt down the inhabitants. Following a brutal murder in their family home, Ethan Winters must rescue his daughter Rose from the clutches of a strange cult who worship an intimidating being named Mother Miranda.

Let's face facts. You're here for Barney and I respect that, so here's the prehistoric playmate himself modded into the newest game from one of the most iconic horror series.

Modder MarcosRCRE thought this wasn't wacky enough and took matters into their own hands by changing the character models of these creatures into Barney. Hearing him hiss and stagger forward, propelled purely by bloodlust, is probably one of the worst things a human being could encounter. In fact, MarcosRCRE is quite a creative sort when you consider their Patreon, which features the Duke swapped to the Merchant from Resident Evil 4 and Nemesis wearing Jill's outfit in the Resident Evil 3 remake. Perhaps... they've got the right idea. Perhaps populating the village with various characters from childrens' shows is the only way to defeat the evil lurking at its core. Now, if the Lycans could be turned into Clifford the Big Red Dogs, then the inhabitants wouldn't be chased out of hearth and home. Also, I bet it would be Rose's dream with all of her favourite characters coming to save her.

Somehow, I don't think this is the way it ends. I think the most suitable course of action is to get Sub-Zero over here, as we recently asked actor Joe Taslim how the villain would take on the most iconic characters in games. His approach to eliminating Lady Dimitrescu is rather inspired, if utterly devastating and deplorable at the same time. Eh, that's Mortal Kombat for you.
