The Oscars 2021 have just happened, and as always it was film's biggest event of the year. The best movies of the last 12 months make an appearance as they're awarded with the most prestigious award you can find. But perhaps unexpectedly, a game-related film won an Oscar this year - Colette.

There are a few big names when it comes to semi-realistic war games - the original CoDs, Battlefield, and of course, Medal of Honor, of which the latest offering in the series is the VR title Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. A rework of the original MoH game with, of course, added VR capabilities so you could really be there. Whilst the game was being made, parts of the short film were included (among others) with the intention being that they would serve as an educational device for players to learn about the struggles of war. Colette follows 90-year-old Colette Marin-Catherine as she confronts her family past by visiting Germany; a country she vowed never to step foot in again. The trailer below gives a brief glimpse at the incredibly emotional short film.

Although published via The Guardian, Respawn (Medal of Honor, Titanfall, Apex Legends) were involved in the creation of the project, of course, as it was included in the VR title. Other documentary elements of people involved in the Second World War were also included in the final version of Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, which deepens the overall experience of the game and the events.

Fortunately for you, if you're interested in seeing the Oscar-winning doc, it's free and only about 25 minutes long. You can watch it through The Guardian website or on YouTube if you like. It's obviously good, it just won an Oscar, so we don't need to tell you that - but it's beautiful and heartbreaking and worth your time. Congratulations to the teams involved.
