Ryse: Son Of Rome is a funny old game. Released all the way back in 2013 as a launch title for the Xbox One, Crytek's action-adventure game didn't exactly set the world alight.
Don't get me wrong, the game wasn't awful by any means... but it certainly wasn't great, either. In a year of seriously forgettable launch titles on both consoles, Ryse: Son Of Rome perhaps established itself as the most forgettable of them all. Met with mixed reviews and middling sales, we'd long since assumed that Crytek had put this series to bed.
That may not be the case after all, however. According to a new report, Crytek is working on Ryse 2 - and it could be a multiplatform title. A massive Crytek leak last year suggested that the studio had a ton of games in development, including a sequel to its 2013 misfire. Now Xbox insider Nick 'Shpeshal Ed' Baker has claimed to have heard further rumblings that Ryse 2 is very much in development.

In the most recent episode of the XboxEra podcast (which you can find here), Baker says that he had heard about Ryse 2 last July, months before the leaked Crytek documents. He adds that his source has since reached out again to assure him that the sequel is still in development and very much the real deal.
"I had a reason to believe that this person we legit because they then showed me certain things that made me believe they were on the level, so of course the thing I got excited about the most was the fact that a new Ryse is in development", the insider explained.
"So this person told me, 'yep there's a new Ryse in development'. I can't give you dates and I can't give quarters of when things are happening, just that there's a Ryse in development, and like I said I've been given pictures of stuff that leads me to believe this person is legit."

Baker added that it "seems like" the new entry will be multiplatform, releasing on PlayStation 5 as well as Xbox Series X. Take these rumours with a pinch of salt for now, but it sure looks like Crytek is taking one last swing at Ryse. Good luck to 'em, I say.
