New Saints Row Teaser Confirms Complete Reboot For Franchise

Not quite what we were expecting

It looks as if a brand-new Saints Row is set to be announced by publisher Deep Silver at Gamescom later this week... but it might not be the Saints Row V we were all expecting. All the evidence points to a complete reboot of the anarchic crime series, in fact.

The Game Awards and Summer Games Fest creator Geoff Keighley has been teasing a little of what we can expect to see during Gamescom's opening livestream on Wednesday, pretty much confirming the arrival of a new Saints Row in the process.

The official Saints Row website was updated late last week with a large picture of a brick wall adorned with the word "rebooting". Keighley tweeted out an image of that same brick wall when promising the show would be "bossing" it with announcements - another references to Saints Row.

Apparently not content to leave anything to the imagination until Wednesday, the official Saints Row twitter account then clarified that the upcoming release is "a whole new game" and "not a remaster or remake." Whether or not it ends up being called Saints Row V remains to be seen, but I'd doubt it. We'll learn more about this new game on August 25 at 7pm BST, so make sure you don't miss it.

THQ Nordic first confirmed a new Saints Row was deep in development back in 2019, adding that it would be a "full entry" in the franchise. It was also confirmed that Volition would be returning to develop the new game, the first in the series since 2013's Saints Row IV. A reveal was apparently planned for 2020... but as we all know, that was the year that didn't count.
