Publisher Koch Media has announced that the next entry in the Saints Row franchise will be getting its official unveiling next year. The existence of Saints Row V (not the official title as far we know) was first confirmed back in August this year as part of a financial report from THQ Nordic.

At the time, THQ revealed that Saints Row V was "deep in development," and would be a "full entry" in the franchise. It was also confirmed that Volition would be returning to develop the new game, which marks the first in the anarchic crime series since 2013's Saints Row IV.

Beyond that, details were pretty thin on the ground. The good news is that we now know when to expect a proper first look at the game. Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz revealed in a recent interview with GI.biz that further details - and hopefully some gameplay - will be shared in 2020.

Whether or not that means the game will launch in 2020 is anyone's guess, but I'd imagine Saints Row V will be a next-gen release at this point... so 2020/2021?

"Saints Row is very close to our hearts, and we'll talk about it next year," Kundratitz said. "For the time being, we just wanted to get the word out that it's coming and it's going to be great."

For now, I think fans of the series are just excited to know that a new Saints Row is definitely on the way. 2013 was a long time ago, after all. There was also 2017's Agents Of Mayhem spinoff of course, but poor sales and a middling critical reception pretty much guarantees we won't be getting anything like that again for a while.

In the same interview, Kundratitz also reassured fans that Dead Island 2 is still in development. The long-gestating zombie sequel was recently handed to its third developer in five years, but the CEO insists that is a sign that everyone involved is committed to the quality of the game, rather than cause for alarm.

"Look, Dead Island is a very important brand for us and we've got to get it right," Kundratitz explained. "It's just a testimony of our dedication to get it right."

"It's a great story to tell everyone that it's on its third studio, but we like to be judged on the end result and we're really confident that when it comes out it's going to be a kick-ass zombie game. We'll certainly give it all our power."
