If you can cast your mind back a few years, you might remember the utterly bizarre meme that reimagined Shaggy, the stoner detective from Scooby Doo, as an all-powerful demigod.
I'm still not entirely sure how or why this meme took off, but for several months the internet was awash with depictions of the usually gentle Shaggy as an unstoppable force of nature that could destroy worlds in the blink of an eye.
It wasn't long before Mortal Kombat fans started a petition to get Shaggy into NetherRealm's brutal fighting series, presumably safe in the knowledge that none of the game's fighters could do any harm to the man from the Mystery Machine. While Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon did acknowledge and support this movement, it never went anywhere officially.
I suspect Warner Bros. didn't want to see such a family friendly character making balloon animals with Sub Zero's lower intestines. Until now, that is. Mortal Kombat: Battle of the Realms, the latest animated movie based on the game series, was just released this week. While I've yet to see the movie itself, the opening Warner Bros. animation officially and canonically confirms that "Ultra Instinct Shaggy" is a powerhouse. Watch below as he absolutely wrecks Scorpion in a matter of seconds.
Does this mean we're one step closer to seeing Shaggy in Mortal Kombat 11 as an official DLC character? I certainly hope so, but I probably wouldn't bet on it. Then again, for all I know, Shaggy is literally so powerful that he's in charge of Warner Bros and NetherRealm across every reality and can do what he wants when he wants.
