Shang-Chi star Simu Liu has found himself in hot water after a series of old posts from an archived Reddit account alleged to have belonged the actor resurfaced earlier this week.

The Reddit account believed to have belonged to Liu, u/nippedinthebud, has been offline for a while. But that hasn't stopped screenshots of the account posting in various controversial subreddits from circulating online. Twitter user NebsGoodTakes shared a handful of screens from r/aznidentity, a subreddit that has ties to Men's Rights Asians, a notorious movement that has harassed Asian women on and offline in the past.

"/u/nippedinthebud appears to be Simu Liu's archived Reddit account," NebsGoodTakes wrote on Twitter, along with further screens that appear to show Liu taking ownership of the account. "It shows him commenting in the racist incel subreddit called into question (among other things)."

Elsewhere, nippedinthebud made controversial comments in regards to pedophiles. In a post explaining the research he did in preparation for a role, he noted that "from a biological standpoint [being a pedophile] is no different than being gay".

This is hardly the first time the internet has dredged up potentially problematic comments from an individual's past. In 2018 Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn was fired by Disney for a series of controversial tweets and offensive jokes from nearly a decade previously. The backlash against Disney in support of Gunn was such that he has since been rehired and will direct Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3.

While Liu has yet to directly acknowledge these alleged posts, a tweet posted by the actor from 2019 did in fact admit that there are likely things he's not proud of if you were to go looking.

"If you dig back far enough, I'm sure you'll find a more immature version of me who gave in to anger and hate," Liu wrote at the time. "It doesn't make me a hypocrite; it makes me a human being. Mentalities evolve. We shift and we grow. And I want us all to grow the right way."
