After months of rumours and speculation, Silent Hill has finally returned from whatever void it's been lurking in for the past few years. Unfortunately, it's not quite back in the way that any of us were expecting. But we take what we can get, right?
Rather than announce a new game (as per the persistent reports a few months ago), Konami has instead teamed up with Dead By Daylight studio Behaviour Interactive.
The asymmetrical multiplayer horror game has had its fair share of horror icons at this point, including Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, and even the Demogorgon from Stranger Things. Now, Silent Hill 2's terrifying Pyramid Head is joining the ranks as part of a special Silent Hill-themed DLC pack. Check out the official reveal trailer below.
Pyramid Head will be referred to as The Executioner in Dead By Daylight, for reasons I don't quite understand. Maybe Konami has decided Pyramid Head is a dumb name? Who could possibly say. In any case, Behaviour Interactive describes the monster as a "sadistic and merciless killer fixated on dispensing punishment through pain".

The pointy-headed terror will be joined by a new map - Silent Hill's iconic Midwich Elementary School. We're also getting a new survivor in the form of Silent Hill 3's Heather/Cheryl Mason.
Those of you who own Dead By Daylight on Steam can get your hands on the new content right now as part of a public test build. The DLC pack will officially launch for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on June 16th. We haven't heard anything on pricing at this stage, although the majority of licensed DLC for Dead By Daylight has has all been paid.
While perhaps not the way any of us envisioned Silent Hill coming back, this is at least a step in the right direction. There was a glimmer of hope a few months back when multiple reports suggested that Konami was developing more than one new Silent Hill game. Sadly, the company put those rumours to bed fairly quickly.

Konami did suggest that it hadn't "completely closed the door on the franchise", however, which leaves some wiggle room for a comeback. I only hope that when the company said this, the Dead By Daylight DLC pack wasn't all it had in mind. It's been far too long since we've had a new game in the survival horror series, and all the DLC trailer has really done is remind me how much I need a reboot or remake.
