The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a masterpiece of an RPG, but none one without its issues. While the wintry wastes of Skyrim are filled with all sorts of exciting things to do and see, the game's open-world is sometimes rather at odds with a main questline that quite often forces itself upon players.

From the very beginning of the game, there's basically also someone trying to tell you where to go and what to do. While you can ignore them and go on your merry way, it's an unfortunate fact that a number of quests, powers, and abilities, remain locked until you complete certain key quests. Not ideal for the stealth archer who has no interest in anything other than stealing cheese wheels from villagers.

Take a look at our very own guide to Skyrim below!

Fortunately, there's now a mod for that. Created by agd25, the 'At Your Own Pace - Main Quest Tweaks' mod for Skyrim opens up the game massively and allows players to experience the game at, as the name suggests, their own pace.

"Skyrim's quests tends to force you into them, especially the main quest," reads the mod description. "If you use the vanilla start there is no reasonable place to stop and go and do something else, despite the game being go anywhere do anything. Alternate Start helps, but you tend to run out of reasons to avoid Helgen.

"There is always a Dragon to fight, a quest to do, never time to steal every sweetroll in Skyrim. And no matter what character you are playing, you are always expected to be a hero, in a game with three evil questlines. So this mod should hopefully fix this, by giving the player breaks at various stages."

It's a neat idea, and one that should certainly coax in old players for yet another playthrough. You don't have to become the Dragonborn, pick a side in the civil war, or even fight dragons. if you want to live your best Skyrim life your way, head to Nexusmods and follow the installation instructions.
