'Skyrim' Gets Modern Third-Person Combat Overhaul That Looks Stupidly Awesome

I love to see it

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a wonderfully expansive RPG, but there's no denying that it's starting to show its age. Combat, in particular, can be a woefully clunky affair at times - especially in third-person.

Melee combat is the biggest offender. Slicing off an enemies head can be plenty fun in the beginning, but before long running into a room to dispatch enemies with a sword and shield quickly descends into a repetitive cycle with next to no visual flourish. I think that's a big part of the reason most of us love playing as Stealth Archers - it does away with the need to get up-close-and-personal.

Take a look at our very own tour of Skyrim below!

With so many incredible swords, axes, and maces waiting to be found in Skyrim, it is a shame they're not more fun to use. Fortunately, one fan has put together the perfect cocktail of mods that completely overhauls melee combat and transforms it into something that wouldn't look at all out of place in a modern RPG.

As you can see below, redditshredditt is playing Skyrim in style right now. Third-person combat looks fluid, fast, and so much more rewarding as the player chains together sword attacks and spells with minimal effort. These simple changes breathe new life into the ten-year-old game and help it to look brand-new again. If I had a PC that wouldn't crumble at the mere hint of so many mods working together, I'd be well on checking this out myself.

If you're curious to try this for yourself, you'll need the following mods: True Directional Movement, SkySA, Smoothcam, Wildcat, Ultimate combat, The Ultimate Dodge Mod, zxlice hitStop, HitFX and Nordic UI. Assuming your PC can handle all of these at the same time, why not give it a whirl? If combat in The Elder Scrolls VI is anything like this, I know I'll be a very happy gamer indeed.
