If Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 - Remastered have taught me anything this year, it's that gamers love an unexpected comeback. Reviving a long-dormant franchise or character with a new entry that explicitly plays on our memories of the good old days is a recipe for success, especially in an era where we spend most of our time looking back because the future is about as inviting as cake made of human excrement.
That's why I'm so excited at the idea that SEGA might actually, finally make Sonic Adventure 3. The original Sonic Adventure and its sequel were two of the best games on the Dreamcast back in the day, and got even better when they were later ported to Nintendo GameCube. We've had a ton of 3D Sonic games since then, but few have come close to capturing the spirit and excitement of the Adventure series.
But with SEGA promising big surprises and new games for the hedgehog's 30th anniversary next year, it looks like the follow up to 2001's Sonic Adventure 2 is on the cards at last. That's according to a very interesting tease shared by the official Sonic The Hedgehog Twitter account, anyway. As you can see below, there's nothing entirely suspicious about this image of Super Sonic, is there?
But if you look closer, you can see the cheeky so-and-sos have emblazoned the number 3 on the side of Sonic's face. Ask any Sonic fan to associate the number 3 with the franchise, and every single one is going to think of Sonic Adventure 3, right? One or two might think about Sonic Rush 3, which would also be awesome, but I'm sure SEGA knows where most our brains will go when they present us with an unexplained 3 on Sonic's damn face.

Just to add further fuel to the fire, Dr. Eggman's voice actor Mike Pollock replied to the tweet with his own infuriating tease.
Either SEGA is screwing with us big time right now, or the company has decided to celebrate Sonic's 30th by giving us the sequel we've waited nearly 20 years for. I'm choosing to believe in the latter, because it's what I need to do right now.
