Jeff Fowler the director of the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has announced that the team has officially finished filming. Now the footage will move into the lengthy post-production phase and Sonic and his friends will finally come to life in the live-action scenes the crew have already filmed.
Announced on Twitter, Jeff Fowler posted a picture of the crew looking over a gorgeous sunset finishing up the final bits and pieces on the shoot. The caption simply says: "That's a wrap. Thank you Hawaii" with the Sonic 2 hashtag. We're delighted that even with all the covid restrictions still in place to keep the actors and crew safe, the team have managed to get this area of production finished.
While we're waiting to see Sonic again, take a look at his latest outing as a Minecraft character...
We've actually seen little bits and pieces from leaked set images already. It wasn't too long ago that we got our very first look at Knuckles and Tails as they join Sonic in the main cast. Of course, these characters weren't really on set but their reference models were - huge plastic versions of the characters you can see here.

We had previously thought that the second Sonic movie had finished filming after Jeff Fowler had posted an image celebrating wrapping up filming in Vancouver. It's now clear that that was just the first half of the process and Hawaii was the second destination they needed to complete the film.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 will of course see the return of Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Jim Carey as Dr Robotnik, and James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, the human sidekick to Sonic. The original turned out to be the highest-grossing video game film in the US so we have high expectations for the next story the team have to tell. The movie is set to release on April 8, 2022, and we can't wait.
