Paramount's Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has started filming, and leaked set photos appear to have confirmed the inclusion of Knuckles the Echidna in upcoming sequel. The fan-favourite character is joined by Sonic and Tails, who made a surprise appearance at the end of the first film. Spoilers, I guess.
Posted by @TailsChannel on Twitter before spreading around the internet like wildfire, set photos reveal a trio of props that represent Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. These characters will obviously be CG creations in the final film, but having props on set no doubt gives the human actors an idea of where they need to be looking during a scene.
Knuckles had previously been rumoured to appear in the sequel, but this is the first confirmation that Echinda is joining the fun. Whether he'll be friend or foe to Sonic remains to be seen, as the two have a contentious history in other Sonic-related media. My best guess is that they'll start off enemies before teaming up to take down a bigger threat, presumably Jim Carrey's Doctor Robotnik.

The even better news is that unlike the initial reaction to the original Sonic design, fans are very much in love with Knuckles' look for the movie. There's a chance the prop might not be indictive of the character's final look, of course, but it's safe to assume he'll look pretty similar to the way he does in these set photos. Just slightly less plastic.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is expected to speed into cinemas on April 8.
