Never in a million, gazillion years would I ever have guessed that the live-action Sonic The Hedgehog movie would be any good. Imagine my surprise last year, then, when the blue blur's debut big screen outing ending up being genuinely good and properly successful... not to mention good enough and successful enough to spawn a sequel!

Yes, SEGA and Paramount Pictures has officially revealed the title and release date for Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Unsurprisingly, the film is called... well, it's called Sonic The Hedgehog 2. As per reports from last Summer, we also now know for sure that the film is currently scheduled for an April 8, 2022 release date. You know, current state of the world permitting.

Last we heard, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 was set to bring Jim Carrey's devilish Robotnik against Ben Schwartz's loveable Sonic once more, with Jeff Fowler back to direct. Going from the newly revealed logo above, it also looks like Sonic's old friend Tails will play a key role in the story. Not a huge shock for anyone who saw the end of the first film, but still great to know for sure.

In even better news, it seems the project is moving along as speedily as Sonic himself. Tika Sumpter, who is set to return as Maddie Wachowski in the sequel, confirmed in a recent interview on talkshow Live With Kelly Ryan that Sonic The Hedgehog 2 starts filming in March in Hawaii and Vancouver.

She said: "[My Daughter] is obviously obsessed with Sonic, she told me she wants to meet Sonic. And I go, 'Well, that's a problem' [laughs]. She's super excited about Sonic 2, which I'm about to start in March. So I'm excited We're shooting in Hawaii and Vancouver. But it's a huge hit in my house."

A report from The Illuminerdi also recently claimed that Knuckles, who first showed up in 1994's excellent Sonic The Hedgehog 3, will possibly show up as an antagonist alongside Robotnik. Whether this ends up being the case remains to be seen, but we have heard that Jason Momoa is in talks to take on the role. Yes, that would be ridiculous in the best possible way.
