'Spider-Man: Miles Morales' Has A Crime-Fighting Cat That Lives In Your Backpack

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales came out with a crowd-pleaser last night, and it's a cat suit that contains an actual cat who helps Miles take down his enemies.

There's a lot going on in that sentence, so let's roll it back. One of Miles' side missions in the Big Apple is to retrieve the stolen possessions of a bodega owner. If you don't know what a bodega is, it's like a corner shop or general convenience shop, and the word "bodega" is Spanish for "storeroom" or "wine cellar". They often are home to cats who scare rodents away from the shop's stockroom, and the burglars have heinously taken the owner's cat as well as the other goods. Also, the cat is called Spider-Man.

When Miles' rescues the cat and completes this mission, it seems that the feline friend has had a taste of adventure, and their watch is over at the bodega. The cat will accompany our hero on his escapades, as part of a special skin that comes with a backpack for the cat to cosy up in. This isn't just an adorable addition though. During finishing moves in combat, Spider-Man (the tabby cat) will leap out, wearing a mask to protect their identity, and give enemies what for.

Incredible scenes. Simply incredible. With this feature, it shows that Insomniac Games knows what the people want and it's prepared to go the extra mile (pun not intended). The game is going to be not only a love letter to the dynamism and the iconic locations of the city, but also a chance for the character to take centre stage on the next generation of PlayStation. "Miles's multicultural background reflects a more modern, diverse world and we wanted to give players a new story, with new set-pieces, fresh villains, and unique quests across Marvel's New York City," said the studio earlier this year.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be playable on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, owing to the fact that not everyone is going to buy a new console immediately. Sony explained that though the game is "designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch." Furthermore, players will be entitled to a free upgrade to the PS5 version of the game regardless of whether they grabbed the digital or physical edition of the PS4 game.
