Any weapon has the potential to be just as deadly for the person using it as the person it's being used against. In the wrong hands, a sword or gun could quite easily backfire. They're not toys, after all. Thank god then, that lightsabers aren't actually real. The Jedi weapon of choice from Star Wars is essentially a frickin' laser sword, and could be disastrous if given to the wrong person.
They are, after all, elegant weapons for a more civilized age. I don't think we could describe 2019 as an entirely civilized age, if I'm being honest.
Of course, where there's a will there's a way... and you cannot underestimate just how badly Star Wars fans have been trying to will lightsabers into existence ever since A New Hope first came to cinemas. In what is a truly remarkable achievement, the Hacksmith's "world's first protosaber."

Before you get carried away with the idea of building or buying your very own IRL lightsaber though, I've got some bad news. The Hacksmith's vid (which you can watch below) serves as ultimate proof of why a genuine lightsaber would be impossible to build, and also incredibly, stupidly dangerous to attempt to actually use.
Those that are really into Star Wars lore will know that a protosaber isn't actually quite the same as a standard lightsaber. As the name implies, the protosaber was a much earlier version of the weapon, one that used an external power pack, effectively limiting mobility and being altogether more clunky.
In the video, it's acknowledged that genuine lightsabers are "scientifically impossible to create in real life". Still, that doesn't stop him from having a good go at making the next best thing in the form of a protosaber - and if a protosaber is possible, who's to say a double-ended Darth Maul-style saber isn't possible somewhere down the line? Somewhere far down the line, I grant you.

Obviously wielding a weapon like this requires an awful lot of power, and the majority of the video is spent constructing the aforementioned external power pack. It wasn't an easy task, and the pack apparently "burst into flames" more than a few times. Ultimately though, the Hacksmith and friends were able to put together a weapon fit for a Jedi. An insanely dangerous weapon that should never be used by anybody outside of a controlled environment
Don't get me wrong, the final product is truly stunning - but watching it burn through various objects made me a little tense. Especially given the Hacksmith's frankly ridiculous lack of safety gear. I guess the dark side of the force really is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.
