Fortnite's played host to a number of major events this year, from live music conferences to the end of the world. But its latest event is even more galactic: a Star Wars premiere. Not the entire film, unfortunately, but a new scene from Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker.
The news was announced on Twitter:
So if you head to Risky Reels on December 14 and 1.30pm Eastern Time, you'll be treated to a scene from the film 30 minutes later.

Personally, I'm hoping it's a scene that goes deep into the lore of what happened to the Princess Leia double croissant hairstyle. Fair enough General Organa has moved on from the look, but has it shifted out of fashion everywhere? You'd think it might be popular as a counter-cultural look, like people wearing Che Guevara t-shirts in the '80s.
Over the year we've seen a number of companies getting into bed with Fortnite to promote their launches - Marvel with Avenger's Endgame, Netflix with Stranger Things, even Lionsgate pushing John Wick 3. So it's not really a surprise that Disney would be trying to get eyes on the new Star Wars. Plus, it's fair to assume there's at least a couple of Star Wars fans at Epic Games.
Hopefully the scene will be made available elsewhere after its debut in Fortnite. After all, it's not the best time to log in for everyone in the world, and watching a video on a virtual screen in a virtual game (where you might have players trying to get in the way or cause a ruckus) isn't the best viewing experience. It's like trying to watch The Irishman on a PlayStation Vita:
Each to their own, though. And, to be fair to the Vita it does have a cracking screen.
