Sebastian Stan Responds To Claims He's Being Cast As Young Luke Skywalker

For some time now, the internet has decided upon Sebastian Stan, known for his role as Bucky in the Marvel movies, as being a dead ringer for a young Luke Skywalker. At long last, the actor himself has weighed in on the conversation, and he's not wholly opposed to the idea.

It is difficult to deny that the two men are similar - even Mark Hamill wished Sebastian Stan a happy birthday, casually quipping that he could be his son. They've got the same square jaw, pronounced chin crease and teeny tiny cleft, and wide, downturned mouth shape. Their noses are a copy and paste job, and they've both got round yet hooded eyes with a heavy brow. Yeah, it's actually freaking me out a little now just how alike these two men are without being related.

Fans have made short shrift of imagining Stan as Skywalker, with photoshops and deepfakes that would rival that of the one at the end of the latest season of The Mandalorian. This concept created by artist BossLogic - the person who revealed Assassin's Creed Valhalla through a livestream - is a dream come true for lots of Star Wars fans and you've got to hand it to them. It is a very cool poster that I'm sure caught the eyes of a couple of big cheeses over in Disney. However, I'm personally partial to a homemade meme, fresh from the ovens of Reddit.

And, Star Wars isn't one to pass over the opportunity to cast lookalikes. Consider Padmé and Sabé, played by Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley. Their similarities fooled Sheev Palpatine in front of the entire Galactic Congress. Yet, it's all well and good writing about how Sebastian Stan and a younger Mark Hamill are like two peas in a pod, but what are the odds of this actually happening? In an interview on Good Morning America, held to promote The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the Romanian-American actor was asked about the possibility.

"If Mark Hamill calls me personally to tell me that he feels inclined to share this role with me then I'll believe it," he replied. It's not a "yes," but it's not a "no," either. Employing an actor to play a younger Luke Skywalker is certainly a lot less effort for the visual effects artists attached to Star Wars TV shows and movies, as they wouldn't need to alter the actor in post-production to ensure every shot is believable. Plus, it's something that the fans have been pleading for, and the surprise that Disney had pulled some strings to welcome Stan on board would be incredible. It's unlikely to occur in the near future, as he is involved in his new Marvel show, but never say never.
