'The Mandalorian' Video Game Currently In Development, Says Insider

Star Wars fans are an argumentative bunch that can't ever really seem to agree on anything, but there are some things we can all settle on. The first is that the Disney Plus series The Mandalorian is fantastic and one of the best things to have come from the franchise in a long time. The second is that the bounty hunter-centric show would make a sublime video game.

I've written before on this very website that The Mandalorian perfectly lends itself to being adapted into a video game. The structure of the show is very similar to that of a modern open-world RPG like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Din Djarin and Grogu have a main mission to get on with, but will often stop off and take on side quests for loot or information. Hell, Din even upgrades his gear several times over the course of the series. It's video game af, son.

The good news, dear reader, is that a video game based on The Mandalorian is exactly what we're going to get. According to XboxEra founder and industry insider Nick "Shpeshal Ed" Baker, the Star Wars game we've all been waiting for is in development, though it's currently unclear who is making it or what platforms it'll ultimately release on.

"Ok. So you'll notice...there's a Mandalorian Funko on [Xbox boss] Phil's Spencer's shelf," Baker wrote. "Yes. Someone is making a Mandalorian game." Curiously, the tweet has since been deleted, but Baker followed up with a second tweet doubling down on the claim.

"Ok, so liiiiittle bit of a whoopsie," he wrote in a follow-up. "Yeah, there's going to be a Mando game. But um...that's apparently not a Mando Funko. I might have just said something I wasn't supposed to yet. Hoping I didn't just burn my source. Got some apologising to do.

If you're wondering if we can trust Baker, this is an insider with a long and entirely reliable track record of leaks and inside scoops. Just this week, he shared the free PlayStation Plus games for May ahead of the official announcement. Leaving that aside, the huge popularity of The Mandalorian coupled with the fact that any developer or publisher can now make a Star Wars game makes a video game based on the Disney Plus show a complete no-brainer.

With that said, take it with the usual pinch of salt for now. Even if a video game adaptation of The Mandalorian is in development now, it may never see the light of day. We all remember what happened with Star Wars 1313. Sometimes projects get cancelled. Let's just cross everything and hope The Mandalorian isn't one of them, because it has every shot at being truly epic.
