It's simple, don't ask streamers about their underwear

Streaming is a very open platform for people to troll others. Although there is so much potential fun and you can cultivate a really awesome community around you, there are always going to be those asshats who take advantage of the fact they can communicate with you live to say terrible things.

Sometimes that's racism, sometimes it just being unkind about the way someone looks or plays a game - but in the case of streamer Negaoryx, it was a misogynistic comment. However, the commenter picked the wrong day to take the Twitch partner on because she was having none of it and takes them down in the most incredible video.

It all starts when someone in Negaoryx's chat asks, "Hi! What colour is your thong today?" which Negaoryx sees and instantly sighs. What follows is her response.

"Respect women, you absolute infant of a human. So what did you expect? Did you expect that I was going to be like 'BLUE, oh my god, why do you want to find that out? (*intense fake giggles*) Here's my number.' Like what do you think people are gonna do, my dude? How do you see this going any other way than how it went?

The commenter then responds "you can't take a joke lmao, what colour is it?" - which sets Negaoryx to go into the most amazing explanation of why treating women like that isn't a joke it's in fact misogyny and those two things are not, and never will be, the same thing.

"You can't take a joke?" She says in disbelief at what she's reading. "What do you think a joke is? Can you imagine John Mulaney getting up on a stage and pointing at a woman in the audience and going, 'What colour is your thong?'. And then she goes, 'Excuse me that's fucked up' and he goes 'You can't take a joke'.

"You haven't gotten to the joke yet. We got to the part where you were being a dick. You haven't told the joke yet. Google Mike Birbiglia: I'm joking. He has a really great bit where he talks about how jokes have been ruined by people like yourself who say shitty misogynistic things, and then when someone calls them out on it, they say 'I'm joking'. Because then people say, 'oh we just can't joke around in the workplace anymore'. No. The rest of us can still joke. You can't because you were never joking in the first place. You were just being a misogynistic sexist piece of shit.

"And then you don't like hearing that because someone's holding a mirror up to you and it makes you uncomfortable. Because you know you and you know the parts of you that are good. So in your heart, you have to come up with a narrative that makes you feel better about the fact that somebody's asking you to confront the parts about yourself that you hate the most. And me telling you: 'you're not joking' is me asking for you to hold yourself accountable to be a better person, because you're not right now.

"And I'm sorry if that's hard for you to hear because you think you're the hero fo your own story, but you're a footnote in everyone else's." Negaoryx doesn't drop a mic here but we feel like she should have, as she stares into the camera.

Her last words on the matter sums up how I feel about misogyny a lot of the time - "I need a beer". What more is there to say? Negaoryx is absolutely right on the matter, and if you're the type of person that asks women on stream these sorts of questions - stop, it's not a joke, you're just being trash. Oh, and if you want to check out the fantastic Negaoryx's work, you can do so here.
